A quick report from Angler Josh:
Ok...so this is a little late... I have been having computer issues for about a month... finally got it figured out... back in business...
ok..so...the trip! went to Cedros Adventures... highly recommend you all try this.... four of us made the journey... Sam, his on casey, Terry, and Me along with 5 other Anglers...
in a nutshell...the trip goes like this.... they pic you up from your house Friday... drive to Ensenada... get on a plane... fly to Cedros Island... eat sleep fish for two days... fly home Monday...
Sam and Casey have been on a roll this year.... both got their first Tuna, Casey got his first WSB, and now they both got their first YT! quite the year they've had.... big fish honors go to Sam with two 36 lbers... another highlight was a 200 lb T shark...delicious... here's some pics...

Memorial Day weekend saw 6 Anglers Including yours truly.
In May as we have here at home, you can sometimes expect a little wind. Well, Just like at home. We had lots. The Captains and Anglers persevered, fished through it and got a great whack at the Yellow and Calicos. The Yellows on this trip all went over 35 pounds! With the Jackpot Yellow "43 Pounds" going to 16 year old Jack of Nashville. As Always, the Calicos chewed the paint off everything we threw. Anglers used MC Slugs, Sledge Hammers, Diawa sp minnow JerkBaits, big poppers, even a few on the freshwater SpinnerBait! As for the Hotel. The Anglers really enjoyed staying in there own waterfront Hotel. Watching the Yellows boil below the Hotel sure gets the heart pumping. We are still on schedule to have all rooms done for the Performance Tackle 8day on the 20th. Also. We just had our first commercial on Lets talk Hookup yesterday. Big thanks to Pete and Rick for all the support over the years. The Number given out was wrong. This is getting fixed as we speak. If you want to reach us call 619)772-7570. This cell is on 5am to 5pm everyday. There are still plenty of openings for this year. So be sure to check out the calendar on the website and pick your date. As always, the most crucial detail of any CedrosAdventures trip is the plane seats. Deposits get these purchased and guarantee your trip. All trips are first come first served. July 15th-18th is now booked and closed for 9 Anglers. July 29th - August 1st is booked for 9 and closed. August the 5th-8th is booked for 6 and closed. As always, these dates are 1st come, 1st served. Deposits hold your dates and guarantee plane seats. August 12-15th is booked and closed. Sav-On Tackle in Santa Fe Springs was also looking at a date this year. Call Roger if you are interested. August 29th-Sept 2nd is closed. Jack @ Fisherman's Access has a 9 Angler September 2nd-5th. Booked and closed. September 23rd-26th is needs up to 4 more Anglers Other than that September is open. This is one of my favorite months to fish the Island. Grab one of these dates soon as this month is likely to fill up fast. Also in October, Performance tackle has a second 8 day trip the 14th-21st. This trip is closed. Now for the Fish Report:
Day 1: We arrived on the island in the afternoon and were fishing by about 4:30. We had two pangas with three people on each boat. 10 minutes from the harbor, we made bait in record time and dropped a few back in the water with hooks in them. Instant hook ups and everyone got 2-3 yellowtail before we went in as the sun was setting. All of the fish were between 35-45lbs. Not bad for a warm up.
Day 2: We got an early start and it was non stop on the big yellows until lunchtime. Mostly released. After our arms and backs took a beating, we went in to the hotel for a quick lunch they prepared at the hotel with fresh ceviche and burritos. Afterwards, we went back out and fished the calicos and halibut before finishing the day wrestling the big yellows again. Calicos and halibut on swim bait are a blast down there, but it's pretty hard to pass up giant yellowtail. Especially on a 4 day trip.
Day 3: We decided to fish yellowtail all day without returning to the hotel for lunch. I know another group down there recently were happy to catch 8 fish by 9AM and call it a day on the yellows. Our group couldn't pass up the chance to put the wood to them. By the end of the day, the 3 guys on my panga had caught 37 yellowtail between 30-52lbs. Most were in the high 30s or low 40s. The other 3 people in our group had a similar day. No mid day lull this time. They bit all day.
Day 4: Since our plane didn't leave until noon, we had breakfast and the boys walked down the path to the beach at our hotel and we surf fished. We caught 2 halibut and assorted bass and rays using plastics. Our one lady angler took advantage of the masseuse on call and got a in-room massage.
On my past trips, the yellows were all about the yo yo and surface iron. This time, they definitely preferred the live mackerel fished with a 1/2 to 3/4 ounce slider. Tons of mackerel around and we fished for bait and yellowtail with out having to move the boat much. Also, the area is infested with thresher sharks. Wish I knew! I could have brought some shark gear and tried to land one. We hooked 5 or 6 a day but couldn't get them to the boat. I was using short 50 and 60lb fluoro top shots but some of us used straight mono.
Can't wait for the next trip!
